The Best Paint Colors to Improve Your Front Door

By: Think Frink Home Team

Your home's front door creates a first impression. Before your visitors even step through the door, a striking bold color door makes a statement. It's a simple, inexpensive way that establishes the tone for your interior design aesthetics across the rest of the house.  There are several colors to take into consideration, ranging from classic favorites to more modern tones. When deciding on which color, follow your instinct but make sure it blends well with the outside paint and aesthetic tone for the rest of your space. The home front door can catch the eyes of passersby and may surprisingly increase even a home’s value.

Sky Blue

Sara McLean of Dunn-Edwards Paints, a color consultant and stylist, advises looking to the sky for inspiration when deciding what color to paint your front door. She advises using nature as inspiration for the color of your future front door. Peace River is a tranquil blue that seems to guests as an inviting color.

Refreshing White

Like light blue above, Feng Shui advises against placing doors that face west. White looks wonderful painted on wooden doors. It also needs to be kept clean, just like other pale colors. A cool, tranquil alternative for your interiors is white interior doors.  A white front door is a classic choice and gives the impression that the homeowner keeps a tidy, well-organized house.

Mustard Yellow

Mustard Yellow entry doors are cheerful and welcoming, and they belong in the houses of people who are happy and optimistic. A yellow door indicates that you are an optimist, and your home's interior undoubtedly features vibrant pops of color that mirror your enthusiastic personality.

Charcoal and Gray

If the house has a red brick exterior, a dark door works best. It has become the "new black" in recent years. The appropriate gray may effortlessly generate warm elegance and is far from being cold and industrial. Gray and charcoal are a hit with homeowners these days. Gray color looks so modern and minimalist.

Timeless Black

A front door painted in black, whether in satin or gloss, is chic and timeless, just like black dress. Black looks great with bricks, stones, and pebbles, but it looks its best next to white.

Burnished Brown

A white wood exterior might be nicely contrasted with a deep brown door that has decorative elements to match your overall home. Do not disregard brown for your entrance door even if it is not made of real wood. As a warm neutral, brown may go well with any other earthy color in the color wheel and give your home a classic monochromatic appearance.

Burgundy or Red

If you want visual interest without committing to the intensity of a true vibrant red, burgundy is a fantastic option. Red is the color with the most vibrant personality, and brick red is a somewhat more contemporary interpretation of burgundy. Enhance the door with brass hardware and accents for a welcoming entryway. Red is one of the most common selections, but that doesn't mean it's always the best. Your house must match red. Red goes well with muted neutrals that don’t contend for attention.

Teal Blue

Front doors painted teal give a splash of color and happiness. In accordance with color psychology, turquoise is a color that harmonizes the hues of blue, green, and yellow. It can also stand for emotional harmony and evoke feelings of serenity and calm.

Navy Blue

Similar to black, a deep navy blue or dark blue conveys a traditional and well-ordered nature. The sidelights and trim would look excellent in a neutral color if you choose the navy blue front door. Navy blue complements with every color on the spectrum. This color adds an element of sophistication. You may replace your hardware with dark oil-rubbed bronze for a classic look.

A color wheel is something that even people who have never studied art or design are probably familiar with. It is a useful resource that illustrates the connections between various hues by grouping them into a circle of primary, secondary, and tertiary hues. You can determine which colors work well together and which clash by using the color wheel.

Consider whether you want to remain with a monochromatic color design before comparing the color wheel to the exterior colors of your property. If so, you can choose between a color's darker and lighter tones. Choose a door color that contrasts sharply with the dominant shade of your house on the color wheel.
